About Life Coaching

Is Life Coaching Tax Deductible?
Coaching is usually tax deductible as an educational or professional business expense.

Where are the sessions held?
Sheri McGregor provides life coaching almost exclusively in telephone sessions, which allows partnerships with interesting people near and far. Sheri phones you at your preferred #.

What is life coaching?
Life coaching is a partnership of trust and equality, focused on empowerment. Questioning, thought-provoking exercises, and uniquely designed tools assist in guiding you to identify your strengths, uncover stumbling blocks, build on past success, and recognize value in your unique being. Together, we will examine where you are now, and where you’d like to go. The life coaching process generates self-awareness, and uses task planning and accountability to keep you on track for success. Life coaching is a form of masterminding to access your highest wisdom for positive change. This creates better relationships–with others, with yourself, and with your deepest desires. In short, more balance and joy.

  • Decide on and detail your vision
  • Take sustained action to embrace your dreams
  • Move your business, and personal goals to bountiful fruition, more work-life balance, and joy.

Is life coaching psychotherapy, counseling, or consulting?
No. While life coaching clients may call sessions “therapeutic,” they are in no way therapy or counseling of any kind. Psycho- therapy delves into past trauma, may involve a diagnosis or focus on weaknesses. The relationship is one of expert and client. Consulting is similar in that clients seek advice and/or collaboration from an expert in a chosen field.

The life coaching relationship is an equal partnership. While I may brainstorm ideas with you, offer resources, and provide role-play opportunities, I refrain from offering advice. During the life coaching process, you may in fact uncover attitudes or behavior you can track to the past. This can be helpful, but identifying cause is not the goal. We focus on moving forward. Life coaching is about being and doing in the here and now, to place you in an even brighter and more balanced future.

Who seeks “life coaching”?
Smart, often very successful, talented, accomplished people hire life coaches to gain the synergy of partnership, gain objective feedback, an alternate perspective, and to stay on track during the process. People who are stepping into new roles, have been knocked off their path, or are in transitional life phases hire a life coach to help them get unstuck, gain confidence, and move in new directions or back to more balanced living. Busy people seek life coaching for better time management, stress management, and clutter management. Life coaching facilitates growth, change, and improvement–that’s why champions have coaches.

How long will we work together?
Six months is common for life coaching, although there is no set time. A client may come away feeling transformed almost immediately. Over time, our relationship develops more fully, which nourishes sustained change and continued results. Each client-coach relationship is individually negotiated. I will most likely ask you to commit up front to at least a month (4 sessions).

What are the results?
Life coaching provides a safe, confidential environment in which to identify fears and obstacles as well as move beyond those limitations and take specific action to achieve your goals and dreams. A life coach supports you through the process, helps you identify specific targets, define action tasks, and take aim to realize your goals. In the garden of your life, a few weeds may crop up. I’ll help you tug them out, or find ways to work around them. The result is, you flourish.

What training does coaching “certification” require?
No legal regulation currently exists, which is why there are so many schools offering “certification” through training that ranges from as little as a single day on up to many hours. Reputable coaches recognize the standards asserted by International Coaching Federation as the highest in the industry, and seek training at ICF accredited schools. I am an ICF member and am currently completing certification requirements through the ICF-accredited International Coaching Academy, which is one of the most rigorous and well-respected schools available.

Policies

I have positive expectations for our coaching relationship and look forward to working with you to meet your goals, discover or mend what might be holding you back, and supporting you in creating whatever you desire. The following policies provide a framework for our partnership.

Fees
My fee is due in advance. Your fee includes a number of sessions we’ve agreed upon, plus email support as well as tools and exercises devised or assigned especially for you.

How are fees paid?
Visa, Mastercard, Discover, Paypal, or check
We can accept payment via major credit card, directly from your bank account or via personal cheque

Rescheduling
Schedule changes will be accommodated if at all possible, and will always be accommodated if presented at least 48 hours in advance of our arranged date/time. Cases of emergency are excepted.

Confidentiality
Information provided by you during our sessions is recognized as confidential, and held as such. I will not disclose a client’s information to a third party without client’s specific approval to do so (excludes disclosure of illegal activities, and anonymous/generic conveyance by coach for educational purposes). Likewise, all clients agree to hold as confidential any personal information I as coach may present during our sessions.

Nature of Relationship
Coaching is in no way to be construed as psychological therapy or counseling of any kind. Clients tell me they find the relationship supportive, and some even use the word “therapeutic.” However, this is due to the creation of a safe, empowering environment, and the momentum gained by taking action. We are equals in this forward-moving venture. At times, you may find my questions gently probative or perhaps confrontational. This may bring up deeply held, even previously unconscious beliefs, which you may choose to reassess for accuracy or validity in your current life. I strive to remain fully present during our sessions, will always be open to your questions or comments, and am seeking your highest good. I will provide you with exercises and tools, offer resources when appropriate, and support you in the process. You as client will discover and set goals, work on and report achievements, and move forward at an individual pace. There are no guarantees. You understand that you are responsible for your own results.
